Cheap flights from Glasgow to Lanzarote: winter sun from Scotland
Last updated 29 October 2026 · by the HopCheap team
Lanzarote gives Scottish travellers reliable sunshine for most of the year, volcanic landscapes and a more relaxed feel than the bigger Canary Islands. Glasgow has had direct flights to Arrecife (ACE), with a flight time of roughly four and a half hours. Here's how to do it cheaply.
Who flies Glasgow to Lanzarote?
Leisure and low-cost carriers such as Jet2, TUI, easyJet and Ryanair have served Lanzarote from Glasgow and Edinburgh, with schedules that grow in winter. Compare the two Scottish airports, as well as Glasgow Prestwick if it suits you. Sometimes one has a much cheaper flight on the same day.

- Shoulder months (May, June, late September): often the best fares, with warm weather.
- Winter outside school holidays: early December, January and early March can be good value. Expect around 20–22°C by day, with cooler evenings.
- Peak: the Scottish October holidays, Christmas, New Year, the February mid-term break and Easter. Prices climb sharply.
Scottish school holidays differ from English ones. Scottish October breaks are often earlier and the February break is shorter, so English half-term weeks can sometimes be cheaper for Scottish families. Read more in school holiday deals.
Picking a resort
- Puerto del Carmen: the main resort, with a long beach, lots of restaurants and plenty of choice for all budgets. Close to the airport.
- Costa Teguise: quieter, good for families and windsurfing. Often cheaper apartments.
- Playa Blanca: in the south, calmer and smarter, near the Papagayo beaches. It can be dearer.
- Arrecife: the capital. Cheapest for hotels and very local, though less of a holiday resort.
Getting around
Arrecife airport is just minutes from Puerto del Carmen and close to Costa Teguise, so taxis are affordable. Arrecife Bus services connect the main resorts. A car is worth it for a couple of days to see the island properly, because Lanzarote is small and roads are quiet.
Best free and cheap sights
- Papagayo beaches: beautiful coves near Playa Blanca. There's a small charge to drive in, or you can walk.
- El Golfo and its green lagoon: free.
- Famara beach: wild surf beach with dramatic cliffs.
- César Manrique sites: Jameos del Agua, Cueva de los Verdes and the Mirador del Río charge entry, but combined tickets reduce the cost.
- Timanfaya National Park: volcanic scenery, visited by coach route from the visitor centre. Paid, but a highlight.
All-inclusive or self-catering?
Lanzarote has lots of all-inclusive hotels, especially in Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise. They can be good value for families. Self-catering apartments plus supermarket shopping usually cost less for couples who want to explore. Use our all-inclusive vs DIY guide to work out your own numbers.
Do I need a visa, and what money should I take?
Lanzarote is part of Spain, so it's in Schengen and uses the euro. The 90/180-day rule applies. See our Europe entry rules guide. Use a fee-free card and pay in euros.
Savings checklist
- Compare Glasgow, Edinburgh and Prestwick.
- Check English half-term weeks if they're outside your school holidays.
- Book transfers or car hire in advance in peak weeks.
- Pack reef-safe sunscreen and a refillable bottle. Tap water is desalinated, so many people buy bottled water for drinking.

What does a budget trip look like?
Days 1–2: Settle into Puerto del Carmen. Swim and walk the long promenade. Day 3: Hire a car and visit Timanfaya National Park, then El Golfo's green lagoon and the Los Hervideros sea caves. Day 4: Spend a day on the Papagayo beaches near Playa Blanca, with a picnic from the supermarket. Day 5: Head north for the Mirador del Río, Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes (a combined ticket saves money), then lunch in Haría. Days 6–7: If it's Sunday, visit Teguise market, then spend a lazy day at Famara beach. A two-day car hire covers most sights, and buses handle the rest.
Before you book: a quick checklist for Lanzarote
- Compare dates: check a whole month of fares, not just one date. A few days' difference can change the price a lot (see our flexible date tips).
- Count the extras: add bags, seats and airport transfers to the fare before comparing options.
- Check entry rules: read the latest FCDO advice for your destination on GOV.UK, including passport validity.
- Sort insurance early: buy travel insurance when you book, so cancellation cover starts straight away.
- Plan data and money: sort a travel eSIM and a fee-free card before you leave (see our eSIM and money guides).
- Read the partner's terms: the booking site handles your booking and payment, so check its price, baggage and cancellation terms before you pay.
