Cheapest month to fly to Istanbul from the UK
Last updated 29 October 2026 · by the HopCheap team
Istanbul is a year-round city break, so the "cheapest month" depends on how much you mind cold and rain. Here's how prices typically move through the year, with weather notes. Use the live search buttons for current fares, because prices change constantly.

Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha move by around 10–11 days each year. Eid holidays can bring domestic travel and higher prices. During Ramadan, the city stays open for visitors, and evening iftar atmosphere in Sultanahmet is special. Big events, such as football finals and conferences, can also raise hotel prices.
Flight-saving tips
- Compare IST and SAW airports: Turkish Airlines flies to Istanbul Airport (IST), and Pegasus to Sabiha Gökçen (SAW). See our Birmingham–Istanbul guide for the transfer trade-offs.
- Try regional airports: Turkish Airlines has flown to Istanbul from several UK regional airports.
- Midweek flights: often cheaper.
- Combine with the coast: open-jaw trips (fly into Istanbul, out of Antalya or Dalaman) can be great value in shoulder seasons. See Antalya vs Dalaman.
Hotel prices
Hotels in Sultanahmet, Galata and Taksim follow the same seasonal pattern, but winter discounts can be large. Consider Kadıköy on the Asian side for better value all year.
Currency
The Turkish lira has been volatile, and many hotels and attractions quote prices in euros. Compare prices in pounds when booking, and pay in lira locally with a fee-free card. See our money tips.
How far in advance to book
For peak periods, book early. For off-peak trips, fares often look good a few weeks to two months out. Flexible-date searches help you see a whole month at once (see flexible date tips).
What each season feels like on the ground
In winter, the sights are calm and hotels are keen to fill rooms, so you can often upgrade to a better area for the same money. Evenings are for tea houses, meyhanes and hammams. In spring, the parks fill with tulips and the Bosphorus ferries are a pleasure, but popular hotels fill quickly around Easter and the festival weekends. Summer brings long evenings and rooftop bars, but also heat, queues and the year's highest room rates. Autumn is the local favourite. The sea is still warm, the light is golden and fares soften once UK schools return. If you can only travel in school holidays, the February half-term is usually the cheapest of them for Istanbul.

What does a budget trip look like?
For winter trips, pack layers, a waterproof and good shoes. Istanbul's hills and cobbles are slippery in rain. Winter has advantages beyond price: shorter queues at Hagia Sophia and the Basilica Cistern, cosy tea houses, and the city's famous salep and boza drinks. For spring and autumn trips, book the hotel early, because good-value rooms in Sultanahmet and Karaköy go quickly. Whatever the month, three or four nights is a good length for a first visit.
Before you book: a quick checklist for Istanbul
- Compare dates: check a whole month of fares, not just one date. A few days' difference can change the price a lot (see our flexible date tips).
- Count the extras: add bags, seats and airport transfers to the fare before comparing options.
- Check entry rules: read the latest FCDO advice for your destination on GOV.UK, including passport validity.
- Sort insurance early: buy travel insurance when you book, so cancellation cover starts straight away.
- Plan data and money: sort a travel eSIM and a fee-free card before you leave (see our eSIM and money guides).
- Read the partner's terms: the booking site handles your booking and payment, so check its price, baggage and cancellation terms before you pay.
