Which UK airport is cheapest for flights to Europe?
Updated October 2026 · by the HopCheap team
There is no single cheapest UK airport — it depends on the route and date. But some patterns help you find lower fares.
Airports with the most low-cost competition
- London Stansted: Ryanair's biggest UK base, with a huge range of European routes.
- London Luton: big easyJet and Wizz Air presence, strong for Central and Eastern Europe.
- London Gatwick: large easyJet base plus many other airlines.
- Manchester: the biggest airport outside London, with Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2 and more.
- Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Leeds Bradford, Newcastle, East Midlands: good networks; more competition on popular routes usually means lower prices.
Count the hidden costs
A £20 saving disappears if the train, parking or a hotel night to reach a further airport costs more. Compare: (fare) + (getting to the airport) + (parking) + (bags). Early-morning flights from distant airports often need an overnight stay.
How to compare quickly
- Search the same destination from 2–3 airports you can reach.
- Be flexible by a few days — see flexible date tips.
- Go hand luggage only — see our hand luggage guide.
- Check the timing — see the cheapest time to fly.

We don't quote fixed prices in our guides because fares change constantly — the search buttons fetch current fares. Entry rules can change: always check GOV.UK before you travel.
